Learning Center Certification &

Learning Center of Excellence Designation

Purpose of the learning centers of excellence program

  • Promote professional standards of excellence for learning centers
  • Recognize the need for flexibility and inclusiveness in meeting these standards
  • Encourage centers to develop, maintain and assess quality programs and services to enhance student learning
  • Honor the history of established and unique centers
  • Celebrate the outstanding achievements of centers that meet and exceed these standards

All applicants for Learning Center Certification and Learning Center of Excellence Designation must complete the application form according to the directions in each subsection. The certification description and checklist are designed to assist in identifying the appropriate evidence to include to meet the criteria.

A review committee of at least 3 members from the ICLCA Past President's Council, current Executive Board, or LCE recipients will review the applications for consideration.  Criteria come from the standards outlined in the table of guidelines and each application is rated according to meeting and/or exceeding the standards.  Applicants may be asked to submit additional information at the request of the evaluators to further explain or enhance their application.

After an application is reviewed, the review committee will provide feedback and suggestions based on each application to encourage each center to continue to strive for excellence.

how to apply

  1. If you plan to submit an application, please email Laura Sanders at certifications@nclca.org before moving forward. This will allow a mentor to be assigned to you for support as you prepare your application.
  2. Use the Learning Center Certification Application Form
  3. Please carefully follow the application checklist and provide the recommended evidence to support your application.
  4. Appendices: We encourage the use of appendices to keep the application itself to the specified size. But we would prefer that you reference materials in the appendix to make them easy for the review committee to access. All listed files should be referenced in the appropriate location in the application. For documents created in MS Publisher, please save these as PDF files so that reviewers with Macs can read them.
  5. After completing, please save all of your application materials in a Google Drive and share the folder with Laura Sanders at lsanders@nclca.org
